Official Duke City Renegades Meeting: Oct. 11
Hey Renegades!
Our next official in-person meeting is happening next week! We’ll be doing official meetings on the second Thursday of every month, from now on (unless that Thursday falls on a major holiday). You can plan ahead this way.
When:
Thursday, Oct. 11th at 1 p.m.
Where:
The Factory on 5th Artspace main building (the big red brick building).
The Factory on 5th Artspace
1715 5th. St. NW
Albuquerque NM 87102
Location info: http://www.factoryon5.com/location.htm
(please say something if you need help with directions)
For those that have not been reading the Yahoo! group, we moved the location of the meetings to an artspace because we’ve had problems finding large tables and hearing each other in the past. Plus, we can stay as long as we like and the waitresses don’t get mad at us.
Who:
Everyone who can make it. Please try to bring snacks and we’ll have a
nice little get together.
What:
We will be discussing:
–our member website
–the Duke City Renegades Art Show this year (in Nov. or Dec.)
–show opportunities, winter shows, 4th st.
–doing special events with other guilds/groups in town
–anything you might want to bring to the table
–including ourselves in the ABQ Arts art society listing; admitting
new members, whether or not we should charge fees, etc.
Remember that we’re no longer just an Etsy street team. It’s not
necessary to plug Etsy as your main focus, in your group website bio. We’ll discuss that in the meeting. We are our own thing now!
Notes:
Since we’ve already been doing this, let’s go ahead and mark the
second Thursday of every month as our official meeting day. That way
we can plan in advance for future meetings and attendance. All of the
other local arts guilds have set days for their meetings. We should,
too (for the sake of everyone’s scheduling).
I realize it’s impossible to make meetings perfectly accessible to
everyone, all the time. I usually miss my Watercolor Society meetings
because they’re always on a Saturday, usually when I have an art show
going on. I understand that not everyone can make it all the time. I
hope that by choosing an anchored date, more of us can get there more
often, though.

Our Website is ONLINE!
Stop by and check out our new website, Dukecityrenegades.com!
Robyn and I have been working hard to create a site that reflects our professional (yet rebellious) spirit. Come see what we’ve done:

Team members, feel free to link to the site to help get our info out there. We hope the site will become a useful tool for research, advertising, and showcasing.
If you would like to have a profile page on the guild site, please send the following info to dcrenegades (at) yahoo.com:
1. A banner, square or rectangular, for your shop
(a square one is good for the front page — if you don’t have a square
one, we’ll use a photo of one of your items for the button to your bio
page)
2. A bio about you, your shop, whatever you want to say about yourself.
3. A photo of you. This is optional, but I think it’s nice to see who
people are and it sort of makes things more personal for potential buyers.
4. A list of your links: i.e. your web site, your etsy site, your
blog, your lovli site, your flickr.
5. contact info: email.
6. Code for a mini etsy for your shop, if desired. This gives a look
at your products, but isn’t required.
None of this is required, actually. But this Web site is one more way
for everyone to get seen. People who don’t send their info will just
have a photo on the front with their business name to show they are
members of the group, but it won’t link to anything.
The profile page option is only available for group members at this time.

Website In Progress
Our new website is in the works!
Robyn (burstofhappiness) and I (plasticpumpkin) are actively working on it.
The site will feature information on our guild, profiles for each member, places to shop for our work, information on joining the group, etc.
The member profile pages will be your time to shine. Here’s what we need, in order to build your very own page on the site:
What we need from each person is the following:
Please email this info to us at dcrenegades (at) yahoo.com.
We’ll keep you posted on the site progress!

Business Card Swap for July 13th
Hey, Renegades! Don’t forget to bring a chunk of business cards to our next meeting. We can exchange them for advertising and giveaway purposes.
If you already traded cards last time, bring some more anyway as we may have new members and some existing members may be low on cards.

Group Meeting, Fri. July 13th

Our next group meeting has been scheduled! Please try to stop by. We’ll be discussing a lot of material, including exciting future directions and opportunities for the group.
When: Friday, July 13th at 1 p.m.
Where: Flying Star Cafe near the Cottonwood Mall
Map of 10700 Corrales Rd Nw Albuquerque, NM 87114-9254, US
Photos of the Corrales Rd. location: Wow, Pretty!
There is inside seating and a nice outdoor patio.
What: We’ll be discussing a wide range of exciting new opportunities, ideas, and plans. It’s sure to be productive (and fun)!
Some of the topics on our agenda:
- Transformation of our Etsy-based street team into a full-fledged, local arts guild with bigger goals.
- Our team website; turning it into a cool portal for potential customers to shop and potential members and arts community folks to read.
- Advertising tools: our blog, MySpace, our up and coming website
- Street vending
- Shows database
- Albuquerque Arts Alliance group show idea
- Permanent monthly meeting scheduling ideas
- Group events, contests, and events (local)
- And other goodies!
We’re holding our next meeting at another Flying Star Cafe. We’ve decided to use them as our primary meeting place(s), because they are scattered all over the valley and they tend to be accepting of artists and group get-together (plus, they’ve got great drinks and food).
We’re going to rotate our meeting spot each time, so that it occurs at a different Flying Star Cafe, at a different location. We hope that by doing this, it will keep members from always feeling like they are the farthest away, or have the longest drive (by rotating, sometimes the meeting spot will be closer to you–sometimes farther away).
The Flying Star Cafe on Corrales Rd. is very close to the Cottonwood Mall and is also near other interesting shops (including Papergami and the Sunflower Organic Market).
